Putin responded to the Americans with his article
The United States is trying to weaken the negotiating position of the Russian Federation in the Minsk process.
The head of the department of Eurasian integration and development of the SCO at the Institute of CIS Countries, Vladimir Evseev, writes in Izvestia about this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
He suggests that during his last visit to Germany, Zelensky discussed with the German leadership the creation of a new format for the Minsk negotiations, which would include the topic of Crimea and the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.
“In parallel, Vladimir Zelensky, again at the insistence of his American supervisors, is looking for a new format for resolving the situation in Ukraine through personal meetings with US Presidents Joe Biden and Russian President Vladimir Putin. And again, with the actual refusal of Kyiv from the complex of agreements “Minsk-2”, which was so inconvenient for it. And this despite the fact that in June, at the Russian-American summit, Biden agreed with the need to comply with these agreements,” writes Evseev.
In his opinion, Zelensky’s insistence is no coincidence, since a new format for resolving the situation could allow the United States to combine two completely different problems - Donbass and Crimea.
“Secondly, it will weaken the negotiating position of the Russian Federation by including states unfriendly to it in the new mechanism (primarily Great Britain, whose guided-missile destroyer HMS Defender grossly violated the Russian state border near the Crimean peninsula in the area of Cape Fiolent on June 23). Thirdly, this format of negotiations can serve as a cover for the deployment of NATO infrastructure in Ukraine, that is, its military “development,” the expert notes.
“We also expected a response from the Russian side to these American proposals; it can be found in Vladimir Putin’s article "On the historical unity of Russians and Ukrainians", published July 12. In particular, it noted: “Russia did everything to stop the fratricide. The Minsk agreements were concluded, which are aimed at a peaceful resolution of the conflict in Donbass. I am convinced that they still have no alternative... And we will never allow our historical territories and people close to us living there to be used against Russia,” sums up Evseev.
