This is stated in the message of the Chief Prosecutor's Office of Georgia, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“If a request is received for the detention and extradition of Leonid Chernovetsky to Ukraine, it cannot be fulfilled, since he is a citizen of Georgia and his transfer to third countries is unacceptable,” the message says.
Let us remind you that today the speaker of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine Larisa Sargan reported that the court allowed investigators of the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine to detain Chernovetsky in order to select a preventive measure for him.
On July 14, Chernovetsky was informed of suspicion of committing a criminal offense under Part 2 of Art. 364 (abuse of power or official position) of the Criminal Code.
According to the General Prosecutor's Office, a pre-trial investigation in criminal proceedings has been opened into the illegal construction of an engineering and transport infrastructure facility (helipad) on Parkovaya Road in Kyiv.
It has been established that the illegal actions of the ex-mayor of Kiev Chernovetsky in the interests of currently unidentified persons from Viktor Yanukovych’s inner circle are expressed in the illegal seizure, change of purpose and lease of especially valuable land for the construction of a helipad.
Also, the ex-mayor of the capital is accused of understating rent for land and, as a consequence, destroying an archaeological heritage site, which caused damage to the territorial community and the city of Kyiv totaling more than UAH 250 million.
Chernovetsky was the mayor of Kyiv from 2006 to 2012. Now lives in Georgia. There, some time ago, together with his wife, he unsuccessfully participated in parliamentary elections at the head of his own party.
