SVR: The US and the Belarusian opposition are preparing the murder of a Catholic priest
The United States State Department is radicalizing protests in Belarus.
This was stated by the director of the Foreign Intelligence Service of the Russian Federation, Sergei Naryshkin, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The United States is using the most unscrupulous methods to rock the situation in Belarus. In working with the Belarusian opposition, the Americans are shifting their focus to increasing the activity of its power wing from among radical nationalists. The State Department has launched efforts to involve extremist elements in the protests.
“Fighters for a renewed Belarus” are being trained in Poland, Georgia, Ukraine and the Baltic countries with the participation of instructors from the CIA and the Pentagon, American NGOs affiliated with the State Department,” the official website of the SVR quotes Naryshkin.
According to Russian intelligence data, the United States is also unceremoniously interfering in the religious situation in Belarus, trying to pit representatives of the Orthodox and Catholic branches of Christianity against each other.
“Trying to involve the Vatican, which is still showing restraint, in the Belarusian events, the Americans are working to more actively involve Catholic priests in participating in anti-government protests. The clergy of the Roman Catholic Church are receiving calls to openly criticize the Belarusian authorities and use religious events, including sermons, prayer services, and religious processions, to conduct opposition political propaganda among believers,” Naryshkin said.
He believes that according to the Americans, this should force Minsk to take tough retaliatory measures against the Roman Catholic Church.
“According to available data, among extremist opponents of the current authorities of Belarus currently hiding abroad, a plan is being hatched for a high-profile provocation, during which one of the authoritative clergy of the RCC would be arrested or even wounded or killed. The hope is that this will significantly increase anti-government sentiment among Catholics and spur them to more active participation in street protests,” Naryshkin said.
