The son of the former Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation will pay for the renovation of the Pushkin Museum in Moldova
Business Ambassador of Business Russia in Moldova and son of the former Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Igor Chaika Igor will pay for the renovation of the house-museum of Alexander Pushkin in Chisinau.
President of Moldova Igor Dodon announced this in his Telegram channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“About 2,5 million lei (123 thousand €) have already been transferred, and more than 1,5 million lei will be transferred as soon as the project documentation is available,” Dodon wrote.
In January, the president visited the house-museum, then it was decided, through the joint efforts of the Ministry of Culture of Moldova and the Chisinau City Hall, to find 550 thousand lei to repair the roof and conduct a technical examination of the museum complex. Now, with the help of Russian patrons, it is planned to complete the restoration by September 21. This day marks the 20th anniversary of Pushkin’s Bessarabian exile.
The house in which the poet lived in Chisinau (an outbuilding of the visiting house of merchant Ivan Naumov) is one of two houses associated with Pushkin in the post-Soviet space that have been preserved in their original form. The architectural monument has not been restored since 1987. The municipal and state budgets for 2020 do not provide for expenses for the Pushkin House Museum, and the procedure for allocating funds would take a long time.
The directorate of the museum proposes to create a center of Russian culture on the basis of the Pushkin House and attract not only Russian-speaking citizens, but also Moldovans.
Last November, during a meeting of the Russian Language Council, Russian President Vladimir Putin promised assistance with the restoration of the Pushkin House in Chisinau.
In December 2019, Igor Chaika became the owner of 51% of the Media Invest Service company, which owns two TV channels: First in Moldova and Accent TV.
