Chernomyrdin’s son assures that it was not he who “slept through” Ukraine
Andrei Chernomyrdin, the son of the late former Russian ambassador to Ukraine, assures that his father did not “sleep through” the separation of the former Soviet republic by the West, but, on the contrary, warned of the danger.
Chernomyrdin Jr. stated this on air on the Komsomolskaya Pravda radio.
“Father said that we could lose Ukraine if we don’t establish closer relationships and cement our alliance more firmly. When he was appointed ambassador in 2001, at the level of the average person between our countries everything was fine... There was no Maidan, Stepan Bandera Avenue. There was no nationalism with a fascist smell... But we don’t know everything. Difficulties have already appeared that were known to our rulers,” he said.
Today Viktor Chernomyrdin would have turned 80 years old.
