The son of a Transcarpathian ex-official tried to illegally take $400 thousand to Romania
On Monday at about 19:00, the Romanian border police detained two citizens of Ukraine, residents of the Tyachiv district: 24-year-old Mikhail Yovdiy and his wife, 23-year-old Elena Yovdiy. Both crossed the Ukrainian-Romanian border in a Maserati car at the international checkpoint “Solotvyno - Sziget Marmatiei”.

Chairman of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration Gennady Moskal announced this on his website.
Elena Yovdiy was driving the Maserati, and her husband was sitting in the passenger seat. When examining the car, Romanian police discovered 400 thousand American dollars hidden under the spare tire. Contrary to customs rules, the money was not declared either when leaving Ukraine or when entering Romania.
“24-year-old Mikhail Yovdiy is the son of Vasily Yovdiy, the former repeated chairman of the Tyachev district state administration,” said Gennady Moskal.
As a result of the incident, the prosecutor’s office and the SBU were instructed to conduct a thorough check of this fact and bring to justice the customs officers at the Solotvyno checkpoint, who “did not notice” $400 thousand under the Maserati spare wheel.
Also, the Transcarpathian prosecutor's office began criminal proceedings against the customs officers of the Tisa checkpoint and the border guards of the Chop border detachment, who allowed 12 thousand 500 blocks of tobacco and about 1 ton of amber to be exported to Hungary. The leadership of the Tisa post and department has been removed from service.
