Syumar told how she stopped Russian tanks, closing Russian TV channels
Closing Russian TV channels, which opened the way for Russian guns and tanks, was one of the main tasks of 2014.
The head of the parliamentary committee on freedom of speech, Ukrainian propagandist Victoria Syumar, stated this during a speech in the Verkhovna Rada, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“On February 20, five years ago, in those days when the “Heavenly Hundred” were shot, Russia had already begun the occupation of the Ukrainian Crimea. I want to remind you that five years ago, when the Ukrainian Crimea was already occupied, Russian propaganda television channels operated on the territory of Ukraine, which reigned in the minds of people and actually opened the way for Russian guns and tanks, they dominated the mind.
We are faced with a huge challenge that European countries have not faced for many decades. We needed to formulate a response to these challenges, primarily in the information sphere. We have set ourselves the task of closing Russian propaganda channels. We received dozens of requests from European cultures who said: “This cannot be done, this is not democratic.” I am very glad that we did this as quickly and as legally as possible, through the court,” said Syumar.
“In fact, it stopped the incitement of interethnic hatred that was happening here, thanks to these TV channels. And I’m glad that today European countries are coming to the same conclusions and doing very similar things at home,” the propagandist added.
Thank you!
