The taiga visit of Putin and Shoigu haunts Ukrainian diplomacy
Russia is unlikely to go to a full-scale war with Ukraine, limiting itself to only local actions. But this could also have devastating consequences for Ukraine.
Former Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States Valeriy Chaly stated this on air on the Pryamoy TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
At the same time, Chaly is confident that in the event of a full-scale war, Ukraine will send coffins to Russia.
“Firstly, we cannot say now what will happen next. We know that Russia is preparing, among other things, the possibility of a military operation. But a full-scale war? I don't think this is a realistic scenario. Even though the Russians think so, they say that this will ruin Ukraine. Yes, this will ruin Russia. Moreover, the consequences will be simply terrible for them.
Our soldiers are dying, but let’s put it this way, the Russians are dying too, they just don’t tell them anything. When they find out how many coffins went there, then they will have a completely different attitude towards their leadership. That’s why I say that I wouldn’t even want to talk about a full-scale war now. But some kind of local advance deeper into Ukrainian territory, some local actions - this is possible.
And this will be enough to destroy even what exists today. Therefore, it is a very dangerous story... The problem is that Russia is an authoritarian country, it can act very quickly. I think it’s not for nothing that Putin goes to the taiga with Shoigu, the Minister of Defense,” Chaly said.
