Okinawa: Police disperse opponents of US base
About a hundred protesters today blocked the movement of construction equipment that resumed work on the construction of a new airfield for the US Marine Corps near the city of Nago on the Japanese island of Okinawa. Protesters are demanding a halt to the construction of a military facility that has received approval from Japanese authorities. The mayor of Nago, Susumu Inamine, personally took part in the demonstration, and the demonstrators themselves had the support of Okinawa Governor Takeshi Onaga. ...
