It was planned this way - Vakarchuk about his failure as a politician
Singer Svyatoslav Vakarchuk admitted that he deceived voters - he never seriously intended to engage in politics, but created the “Voice” party only in order to use his fame to get it into parliament and planned in advance to quit politics for the sake of music.
Vakarchuk spoke about this on Lux FM, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Doesn’t Svyatoslav think that he has fallen in the eyes of many, having shown his uselessness in the Rada?” one of the listeners asked him.
“I think that a single judge for anyone is time. Time always puts everything in its place. I am absolutely confident that I did the right thing by creating the party and getting it into parliament.
I am absolutely confident that I did the right thing when I stepped aside at a certain point and gave the party the opportunity to develop. I know (many people don't understand this), I was aware of this in advance. I spoke about this during the elections, I always said that my task is to bring professional, democratic people into parliament.
I'm not interested in power, I'm not interested in positions. That's not why I'm going into politics. I did my mission, I saw that there are people who can do this further. And I passed it on to them.
Moreover, when there were elections, I said many times that I was not going to quit music, because for me it is oxygen in the blood. I'll die without him.
This means that at some point you realize that either you are fighting for power, or you are doing this. It is impossible to do both at the same time. And I declared this from the very beginning,” assured Svyatoslav Vakarchuk.
He also criticized the celebration of Ukraine's Independence Day, organized by Vladimir Zelensky's team, when instead of a military parade in the center of Kyiv there were performances by popular artists.
“I didn’t like the Independence Day show. At a time when a march of volunteers was taking place in Kiev (ex-ATO fighters decided to hold their march, despite the cancellation of the official parade - ed.), who were defending their state, to do such a show on Independence Day, in my opinion, is inappropriate. I have the right, as a listener, as a viewer, to say whether I liked it or not. At the same time, the one who organized it had the right to his own vision. Well, that’s how they saw our independence. I don't agree with this.
I'm not talking about the content, I'm talking about how it was done.
When I’m drinking at a party with friends and when we’re in a good mood, I allow myself things that, frankly, I don’t want to talk about. But not on Independence Day, and when there is a war in the country,” Vakarchuk said.
Let us recall that Svyatoslav Vakarchuk has spoken several times at events organized for the Russian public since 2014. So, during the events in Ilovaisk on August 26, 2014 (i.e., shortly before Independence Day), he sang in Jurmala for Russian officials, Russian businessmen, and Russian artists. He also sang in the so-called “Russian party” at the Fontainebleau Hotel during the New Year celebration in January 2015, i.e. just about the time of the battles for the Donetsk airport. In September 2015, Svyatoslav Vakarchuk spoke at an event hosted by one of the Russian vodka oligarchs.
