More than 150 thousand tourists have booked their places for the New Year holidays. Minister of Resorts and Tourism Vadim Volchenko stated this today at a meeting of the Council of Ministers of Crimea, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Tour operators don’t remember such figures in Crimea. For some of them, demand has increased by 30-40%. Already, the occupancy of hotels and health resorts is 60-70%,” Volchenko said.
This year, Crimea became the second most popular destination for the New Year among Russians after Sochi, ahead of Moscow and St. Petersburg. In past years, the peninsula ranked 6th.
“The majority of tourists to Crimea for the New Year holidays will come from Moscow - 64%, St. Petersburg - 16%. Then come Yekaterinburg, Murmansk, Khanty-Mansiysk and Rostov. Oddly enough, the flow of foreign tourists increased during the New Year holidays. The share of air tickets from foreign countries to Simferopol increased from 5 to 8,5%. Belarus, Kazakhstan, Germany, Kyrgyzstan and Israel,” Volchenko said.
There are 280 accommodation facilities open in Crimea, which 20% more than last year. This is 30% of the total number of health resorts and hotels. The Minister is confident that it is realistic to increase the share of year-round accommodation facilities to 50-60%.
“Tourist flow can be increased to 200 thousand, which has never happened before. There is the potential to at least double it,” summed up the head of Crimea, Sergei Aksenov.
