“This is the first time this has happened!” – Russia is massively transferring landing craft to the Black Sea
The Russian Navy began transferring more than 10 landing and artillery boats and vessels of the Caspian flotilla to the Black Sea to conduct exercises “as part of the control check for the winter training period.” This was reported by the press service of the Russian Ministry of Defense, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“This is the first time this is happening,” Andrei Klimenko, a member of the Maidan of Foreign Affairs, who fled from Crimea, does not hide his concern.
“The Black Sea Fleet does not have small-tonnage landing craft... In Sivash or on Arabatka, tactical landings can only land hovercraft or landing boats. These are the ones they brought from the Caspian Sea,” explains Ukrainian Navy intelligence veteran Pavel Lakiychuk.
According to him, now Russia “is expanding its offensive tactical capabilities in shallow waters.”
Meanwhile, Russian security officials comment on Ukrainians’ concerns with a smile.
“Training the transfer of naval forces from one theater to another is one of the daily tasks of any state with a navy. Ships of the Caspian Flotilla have repeatedly carried out tasks in both the Black and Mediterranean Seas, and last year, ships of the Black Sea and Northern Fleets held exercises in the Black Sea. This is normal practice, and sailors practice this element of combat training. This may not be connected with the events in Ukraine, although, as a factor in curbing militant hysteria, it may well be. After all, suddenly they will reach Kiev along the Dnieper, so that Kravchuk will shoot at them from his balcony with a Goering gun,” a source in the power structures of Crimea told PolitNavigator.
