A corresponding conversation with border guards was published by the Ukrainian magazine “Reporter,” whose correspondents talked with ATO participants who had recently returned from the front line, where their task was to block a section of the border with Russia.
“There are areas for vehicles that are passable, and there are areas that are impassable. For some reason, we were placed in impassable positions, and all this time equipment was passing from Russia at our side. Why did they keep us there? – the publication quotes the soldier.
“Let them say that there was an agreement on the division of Ukraine: the western part should go to Poland, and Russia – the east. And that we must die in order for this division to be justified by the victims. They told us: “If you have to die, die!” – added the border guard.
“We had a real revolution in the Lugansk region. We saw that ninety-nine point nine percent of the local population was in favor of joining Russia. And we asked ourselves the question: what or who did we come here to protect? We found the only explanation: we simply must defend the integrity of Ukraine,” the publication’s interlocutor also said.
