“We did not expect this”: in Ukraine they noted the consolidation of the people of the Russian Federation
Expectations of the collapse of Russia from within did not materialize - the people and elites only became more consolidated around Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Sociologist Irina Pavlenko stated this during a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The people supported Prigozhin against the generals, against bad commanders. But I haven’t heard anything against Putin. Against the oligarchs - they have very strong left-wing sentiments in society. But I haven’t heard anything against Putin,” Pavlenko said.
She complained that even last year’s mobilization in the Russian Federation did not lead to internal upheaval.
“On the contrary, we expected that mobilization would turn the war from television into a people’s war, and the people would be against it. And according to sociology, we see that the majority are against the second mobilization. But after that mobilization, sociology showed that the number of people who support the SVO has increased.
Why? Because now these are “our boys.” They support “our boys,” their volunteer movement is growing, they donate to the army, and so on,” the sociologist added.
“We expected the elites to be against Putin. But we forgot that these elites were formed and acquired their prosperity under Putin. And when this property is taken away from them, as now, there is an economic concentration of power,” Pavlenko concluded.
