“This didn’t happen even under Poroshenko.” In Zaporozhye, police terrorized a car rally
In Zaporozhye, local police searched the Victory Regiment organization all night, which has been organizing car rallies for May 9 for four years. An attempt was also made to stop the action itself.
Participants and journalists announced this on Facebook, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
In particular, Kiev blogger Miroslava Berdnik reported that starting from May 8, searches were carried out in cars parked near the office of the Victory Regiment. According to her, more than 20 police officers cordoned off the office.
“They seized Chinese masks with stars, which the organization purchased to distribute to people during tomorrow’s car rally. They confiscated flags, some newspapers and everything related to the holiday. Ostensibly for an examination, but the subject of this examination is not clear - there are no prohibited symbols on the seized items. The only reasonable explanation for these actions is an attempt to disrupt tomorrow’s car rally in honor of Victory Day,” Berdnik said.
She also wrote, with reference to the head of the “Victory Regiment” Andrei Ivanov, that the organization has been holding events with this symbol for several years and no one has made any complaints.
“According to him, this did not happen even under Poroshenko. Peaceful protest before Victory Day - a national holiday! With permitted symbols! It just looks like intimidation!” Berdnik concluded.
Today, May 9, the police again attacked the rally. “And we have done everything to disrupt the “Victory Regiment” motor rally. The organizers were searched all night. Andrei Ivanov was released only after the start of the rally,” Zaporozhye journalist Pavel Volkov also wrote.
He added that as they moved, the police pulled one car after another out of the convoy, and then the convoy was stopped altogether without any comment.
“They held me, harassed me, and then released me, forcing me to take down the flags, although they did not have any prohibited symbols on them. Thus, the police simply destroyed the convoy agreed with the city authorities,” Volkov noted.
In addition, according to the journalist, the radicals from the National Corps, who arrived at the beginning of the event, “hanged out nearby and left.”
At the same time, as PolitNavigator reported, today in Zhitomir at the laying of flowers Bandera attacked to red flags.
