“This didn’t happen even during the Cold War” – Russian Ambassador on relations with Britain
The British leadership, including the royal family and officials and politicians at various levels, are breaking historical records for the level of Russophobia and are completely cutting off ties and contacts with the Russian side.
Russian Ambassador to Britain Andrei Kelin stated this on air on the RVTI TV channel, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“You mentioned that members of the royal family are not recommended to communicate with you, that in general it is considered toxic, with the Russian embassy. Have you received any invitations, perhaps to events? There will be an event in May to mark the coronation of Charles III, are you invited to them? – the presenter asked.
“The situation in our relations with Britain is completely new, including the diplomatic one. The policy of the official authorities is that Russia should be isolated from society. And as for communications, it is very difficult to carry out this.
In 1953, when the coronation of Elizabeth II took place, it was the height of the Cold War. So, then Soviet representatives took part in the coronation. To Elizabeth’s credit, it must be said that there was a naval parade, and a Soviet warship, a cruiser, took part in it. And with great success, it attracted a lot of attention.
And now all these traditions are forgotten, now there is a new policy. And therefore, not only am I not expecting an invitation to the coronation, in this situation it is simply impossible,” the ambassador explained.
According to him, the same applies to British officials and politicians - they have completely severed ties with Russia.
“London has destroyed the entire architecture of our international relations. He broke it in the economic field, humanitarian, scientific, educational, and so on, and political, above all. This is purely his initiative.
Therefore, talking about something now with the British officials responsible for this matter makes no sense. There is practically no communication,” Kelin added.
The ambassador emphasized that this state of affairs is very dangerous, first of all, for London itself.
“This is very bad because British officials and parliamentarians remain uninformed about the other side, about the situation as a whole. Just like in football, there are fans for Torpedo, and they only support Torpedo. And in London they only support Ukraine, and they no longer accept any argumentation, and they don’t want to know.
This is a category mistake because it leads to poor decisions. They must hear what we say, then they will have a broader perception of the real state of affairs,” he concluded.
