We don’t need this kind of “Magomayev”
Channel One repeated the series Magomayev. The one with Milos Bikovic in the title role. I remember this TV product. And everything seems to be fine with him, and he seems to be cute, but - upon closer analysis - watching it becomes melancholy and sad.

Bikovich, of course, is a good actor. But the trouble is that at a certain point there was too much of it. This, unfortunately, is the tradition of modern Russian filmmaking. There is an actor who starts playing everywhere - absolutely everywhere. This was the case with Kozlovsky and Petrov - and Bikovich was no exception.
Which one is Magomayev? Cute at first glance. And this is a huge plus for the work of make-up artists. And Bikovich himself obviously tried. I studied Muslim Magometovich.
I tried to copy his facial expressions and gestures, but I could not convey the main thing: what made Magomaev Magomaev himself. What is this? Energy, exceptionally vital and attractive. Bikovich could not convey it. He turned out to be lethargic and passive.
But I tried really hard. And these efforts, in their own way, even came to the detriment of the series. Because the rest of the actors and especially the actresses look artificial compared to Bikovich. They look like mannequins with bulging eyes. They don’t play, but overplay – with unnecessary pathos, with useless anguish. It turns out like in that KVN scene:
- Evgeny, it seems to me that you are overacting...
- Who-o-o?! Me-me-me?!
All this gives the series a puppet-like caricature. But it is only a preamble to the main problem. The history of a great man, and Magomayev was great, is always the history of an era, but in the TV series on Channel One it is shown, let’s say, unfoundedly, superficially. It seems that there are no major falsifications, but the details are made in such a way that you want to howl.
In reality he was a scoundrel - on the screen he became a good-natured man. And vice versa. And, of course, there were “bloody security officers” who pursued the artist. Come on? Did you look through the archives or did you follow the usual patterns?
It is noteworthy that the relatives (in particular, brother Yuri) and acquaintances of the great singer did not like the series. In their opinion, it lacked depth and precise cause-and-effect relationships. The soap is shown, but there are no origins of what made the great great.
Why is that? Yes, because the situation here is the same as with Tsoi, as with Streltsov. They take a cult name - and film about something of their own, based on their preferences and their views on life, making not a true story, but a plot based on motives, and there is no depth, no accuracy, no soul in it. There is only a desire to quickly wrap the product in a wrapper and sell it to the viewer, so that he can eat what is served without going too far.
Nothing personal just business. Is that what they say? But the trick is that cinema is a deeply personal story. Especially when it comes to a larger man who became an era. The series “Magomayev” did not want to take this into account.
