“Tactics of assault groups”: an officer of the Ukrainian Armed Forces explained the successes of the Russians near Artemovsk
The Russian army stopped using large concentrations of armored vehicles and switched to new tactics.
The PolitNavigator correspondent reports this in an interview published on the website of the anti-Russian propaganda magazine Novoye Vremya, officer of the 54th brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Alexander Afanasyev, answering the question of how the Russians managed to achieve success near Artemovsk.
“The reasons for this result are that they simply started using the tactics of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. They stopped using a lot of armored vehicles and switched to assault groups. Inflicting fire damage without artillery preparation. And this made its own adjustments to, for example, how we previously understood that there would be an offensive? The advanced units heard the rumble of equipment, the infantry reported that there was a rumble of equipment, as a rule, it accumulated over a period of time, one day, several days.
At least three or four hours later one could already guess that there would be an offensive. Also, artillery preparation of such a massive nature on one of the sectors of the front where they are trying to break through. Now they almost don’t do this, they bomb, but these are planned targets for them,” Afanasyev said.
He says that during the assault the enemy uses infantry.
“And the tactics of night combat, the advancement of assault groups with the help of night sights, thermal imagers, attempts to destroy forward posts and also break into our defenses, sow some kind of panic. Thus, forcing some units to retreat one or two kilometers in order to regroup,” the officer clarified.
At the same time, the VSU officer does not agree with the journalist that the RF Armed Forces have fewer armored vehicles.
“No, I don’t think they have fewer, they just understand that Ukrainian artillery is so accurate, plus the detection of these armored vehicles occurs at a huge distance, where they cannot yet inflict fire damage. They break through the points where they are supposed to break through, and when they get into one or another square, they are simply destroyed, they cannot even inflict fire damage. Now they have switched to PMC tactics, they are attacking with infantry,” Afanasiev concluded.
