We met these people literally getting off the bus that brought them from the village of Krasnohorivka, destroyed by artillery, a few kilometers from Donetsk.
Two large families left their home only after there was nothing left of it, having spent several days in the basement saving their children from shells. They were taken out yesterday afternoon during a break between bombings by members of the Novorossiya parliament on the instructions of Oleg Tsarev.
They were taken and settled in rooms at the refugee reception center. And they were given humanitarian and material assistance from the People's Front Charitable Foundation and the parliament.
People were put on a bus straight from the basements, so they were left with absolutely nothing. They were brought everything they needed: food, hygiene products, including for small children, and household supplies. In short, everything you need for life at first.
Mothers of many children Marina and Vika are sisters. Marina is 26, and Vika is older, she is 34 years old.
Vika and Evgeny Buchakchinsky have five children - a one-year-old baby and children aged 3, 4, 8 and 10 years. From Krasnogorovka they took their 74-year-old grandmother Zhenya with them.
Marina and Andrei Shirishilov have two small children - 1,5 and 3 years old, Marina is in the last month of pregnancy. “We are waiting for a girl,” says Marina.
The Buchakchinskys’ son, Evgeniy, turned 8 years old today. Members of parliament brought him a large toy fire truck as a gift. And, of course, a bunch of toys for his six siblings and cousins.
Grandmother Evgenia Tsiklauri will turn 74 in October. She has 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. There were five children - a daughter and four sons. The daughter died. Now he lives with his son Evgeniy, daughter-in-law Vika, and helps raise their five children and his grandchildren. She says that she hardly remembers the Great Patriotic War - she was born in 40. My father, a Georgian by nationality, went to fight and did not return - he died.
When they asked 4-year-old Sasha how it had been at home lately, he said: “It was buzzing there, very loudly. We were afraid and sat in the cellar.” But today these tormented people will sleep peacefully, for the first time in many days.
