“There is the Dnieper, forests and swamps. The enemy will not pass”: Reznikov assures that Kyiv is inaccessible
The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine does not believe that Kyiv will be captured in a couple of days in the event of a military conflict.
The head of the department, Alexey Reznikov, stated this on air on the ICTV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Reznikov, the Ukrainian capital can only be attacked from Belarus.
“I ask you not to forget that we have a 1000-kilometer border with the Republic of Belarus, of which approximately 750 kilometers are swamps and have very difficult terrain. Therefore, it is not easy to cross the border in every place. Only 250 kilometers, and they are not located above Kiev, but closer to the Polish border. Even from a geographic point of view, it is a very difficult story to attack Kyiv from the north,” the minister said.
He also says that from Belarus to Kyiv you need to go 200 kilometers to Kyiv, adding that the Ukrainian defense system is ready to repel.
“Simply no one will reach Kyiv. I'm not even talking about the ability of Kyiv's four million people to defend itself. I want to remind you, as a former employee of the local government of the Kyiv local government, this is 82,5 square kilometers, if I’m not mistaken, the square of Kyiv, in the middle there is our huge Dnieper, the left and right banks. Therefore, when someone says that Kyiv will be captured or fall in a couple of days, this is a huge mistake, so I propose not to even consider such apocalyptic scenarios, this is nonsense,” Reznikov said.
