The head of the executive committee of the National Meat Association, Sergei Yushin, announced this today at a press conference in Moscow.
“I am not a supporter of the production of jamon in Russia. It is impossible to produce in a few years what someone has been developing for hundreds of years. But we have Tambov ham. We must promote it as a Russian product. We must promote our taste habits and make them popular in other countries,” Yushin said.
He was supported by the Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation Alexander Tkachev
“There was so much talk: it’s terrible how we can live without Italian steak. A year has passed, our company Miratorg makes steak of no worse quality. Another topic is expensive cheeses. Currently, 3 large factories are being built. In two years we will forget about imported cheeses. In the Black Sea we produce oysters and mussels of very decent quality,” Tkachev said.
According to Yushin, the Russian Federation exports the most unexpected meat products to Asian markets.
“The Chinese need a lot of offal. For chicken legs, which we are forced to sell here at bargain prices, they are willing to pay 1-3 dollars. South Korea pays $1,5 per kilogram for regular bones, which are an important ingredient in their soups,” Yushin said.
According to him, the devaluation of the ruble has increased the competitiveness of Russian meat. Russia now ranks fourth in the world in poultry production and fifth in pork production. Exports of these types of meat have quadrupled and doubled respectively, and there are prospects for further growth.
