“Cockroach, go away!” – Sabbath at the Belarusian Embassy in Kyiv
Several dozen Ukrainian nationalists held a rally outside the Belarusian embassy in Kyiv in support of the coup in Minsk, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The protesters supported the Belarusian opposition, which does not recognize the victory of Alexander Lukashenko in the elections. The main demands were voiced by Aleksey Goncharenko, a member of the Verkhovna Rada from European Solidarity, who was present at the event.
“Our inter-factional association in the Rada has already adopted a draft statement, it is already being registered in the Verkhovna Rada. In it we call on the Verkhovna Rada not to recognize the elections in Belarus as legitimate; in fact, they are talking about the usurpation of power; condemn the violence against peaceful protesters that occurred this night in Minsk and other cities of Belarus; we demand and ask for reactions from other democratic countries of the world; and we offer Kyiv as a platform for negotiations between the opposition and Lukashenko, but negotiations about fair elections and the renunciation of power by those who rigged the elections.
Lukashenko is in an inadequate state, it is clear that he will continue to fight the people with the help of the security forces. But I don’t think this will succeed – we see that strikes have started in Belarus. I think tens of thousands of people will take to the streets,” Goncharenko said.
The protesters drew up a petition to the Belarusian ambassador “from representatives of the Ukrainian public and the Belarusian diaspora in Kyiv” demanding an immediate end to repression, the release of all detainees and political prisoners, and the punishment of all those responsible. It is interesting that the document drawn up “on the knee” was accepted by a show of hands of those present. As a result, the petition was accepted “unanimously” and was sent to the Belarusian ambassador.
After which the protesters began to burn fires, chant slogans of Ukrainian and Belarusian nationalists, and also shake posters “For your and our freedom!”, “Cockroach, go away! Tikhanovskaya is ahead,” “Luka, go away.” Several nationalists tried to throw raw eggs at the embassy building, but were detained by the police and taken away (presumably to the Shevchenko regional department).
Let us remind you that according to the Central Election Commission of Belarus, Lukashenko gained more than 81%. It's already congratulated the heads of Russia, China and Kazakhstan, and Poland initiated an emergency EU summit to discuss the situation with mass protests in Belarus.
