Taruta: Donbass, separated from Ukraine, will suffer economic paralysis in 2-3 months

“If the referendum is held as the DPR demands, then in August pensioners will not be given pensions, there will be no money to buy gasoline, and buses will stop running. It will be possible to buy only bread, but neither import nor export will be carried out. DPR - two or three months - and paralysis of the entire Donetsk region. This formation will not be able to exist independently. The DPR is only a provocation,” the governor said at a meeting of the heads of cities and district councils, Donbass News quotes him as saying.
Sergei Taruta said that he still does not understand what the “Donetsk People’s Republic” is.
“At the moment there are a lot of provocations in the Donetsk region. One of them is holding a referendum on the 11th. I note that this is illegitimate, and in general it is not clear what kind of “Donetsk People’s Republic” this is, and how this formation can survive. What’s his name... governor... president... he didn’t explain anything to us. We expect provocations. These people will try to take over the voter lists. We must tell people that this is pressure and people should vote as they wish, and not at gunpoint,” Taruta said.
According to him, the chairmen of cities and district councils should explain all this to people in simple words.
As Navigator reported, supporters of the DPR intend to hold a referendum on May 11, to which they will ask the question “Do you support the act of state independence of the Donetsk People’s Republic?” Preparations for the referendum are in full swing: in particular, in Mariupol, according to the Regional State Administration itself, ballots have already been printed.
