Taruta claims that he stopped the attack on Mariupol by “fighting with his head”
The fugitive Donetsk oligarch and now Verkhovna Rada deputy from Batkivshchyna, Sergei Taruta, and his brother spent “2014 million” in 560 to keep Mariupol, which, by the way, the Donbass militias did not storm.
Taruta himself spoke about his “contribution” in an interview with Apostrophe, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Everything about how we held Mariupol was thanks to my brother and I’s money. This is colossal money, they officially counted it - 560 million was invested in creating anti-tank ditches, defense lines, assistance to all battalions, assistance to protect Mariupol. We gave, but Kyiv gave nothing. But if we had waited for Kyiv to give a penny at that time, then Novorossiya would definitely be there now. You need to understand that you need to give to the country and serve the country,” says Taruta.
The oligarch added that if not for his help, the military would not have held Mariupol.
“I’m thinking how to stop it, we don’t have enough strength, after Ilovaisk there is a very panicky mood, and I see that the mood is already moving further to the border with Zaporozhye, and this is so. I think that the military will definitely not be able to hold Mariupol on their own; they need to help with something. And then in 10 days, what the Russians did not expect, we built dugouts along the defense line, practically from the sea to Pavlopol, which is approximately 40 km,” the politician noted.
“We built all the high-rise buildings with our own money, with the help of enterprises; we built dugouts from steel, such thick steel. They didn’t expect that we could do it so quickly, they fired at us, but our people did it in 10 days. And when this operation began, they shoot and shoot at these dugouts, and ours come out and respond again, they shoot, shoot, they cannot believe how this can happen. Not a single system took it. What am I talking about? About the fact that you must always fight with your head. It is not those who have more weapons who win, but those who are smarter. The history of all civilization and wars has shown that they win with smaller forces, with a big head,” the deputy boasted.
Let us remind you that earlier there were different opinions regarding stopping the offensive on the occupied Armed Forces of Mariupol. From considerations that this could lead to hundreds of thousands of unemployed and disconnection of the DPR from water supply, before the supposed agreements between Kiev and Moscow in the hope of political concessions of the Ukrainian elite, which subsequently deceived Russia.
