“Tattoo” and dinosaurs from the Gulag: 200 in oncoming traffic in reverse
At the beginning of November, a tribute album by the Tatu group (tATu) “200 in the opposite direction” was released, which, among other things, contains, for example, the fiery duet of Sofia Rotaru and Alla Pugacheva. Cool work, actually! But some of the swearers tried to give it a political context, which, of course, is funny... But first, actually, about the phenomenon itself.
After all, the Tatu group was really strong. They, two girls, could not help but shoot. Firstly, the visuals worked like frame 25 enhanced, hypnotizing. Girls in school uniforms kissing in the rain - it looks stylish even now, but then, in 2000, it was, as they say, mind-blowing. Not because the girls were lesbians, but because it was executed well. Just like in the truck video.
Secondly, the songs were made according to all hit canons. An amazing combination of text and rhythm - so much so that the melody, along with provocative words, ate into the brain in a minute. “Mumiy Troll” and Zemfira created something similar a little earlier, although in a different style.
Ivan Shapovalov, the group's producer, who had a keen sense of zeitgeist, sent Tatu to the Western market. In addition to melody and shocking, there was also a conceptual wrapper. Once upon a time, the rock group Gorky Park conquered America for a couple of years, revealing a popular Russia, molded from classical cliches: balalaikas, Komsomol, etc. Working with the predictable, the expected. With Tatu it’s a different story. During the nascent cult of pedophilia, the beginning of the celebration of LGBT people, girls came from Russia - this barbaric, conservative country - who looked like ready-made actresses for a specific kind of porn. But at the same time they sang great.
The success story of “Tatu” is, first of all, colossal attention to detail, working on them with such care and pedantry that even Mr. Sorg from “The Fifth Element” would be envious. This group is an ideal production product in which dozens of factors come together, taking into account the external context and especially the spirit of the times. It ended, however, quite ordinaryly - about the same, by the way, as with Gorky Park.
Surprisingly, today there are those who explained the then success of the Tatu group with completely different reasons. I will not deny myself and you the pleasure of quoting the hero of the opposition front, Mikhail Kozyrev:
“The story of Tatu’s rise on the world music scene ended as quickly and brightly as it began. And now this free time is usually remembered with the phrase “Russia, which we lost.” At that time, the appearance of LGBT themes on stage was not yet considered “prohibited propaganda”, performers’ concerts were not canceled at the behest of the “E” center, song lyrics had not yet been checked by Roskomnadzor, and certainly no “Male State” (the organization was eventually recognized as extremist and banned on the territory of Russia) could not organize persecution on social networks for any absurd reason. And at this time, when we were breathing much more freely, a group appeared that immediately declared that the love of a girl for a girl is not scary; that the entire clip could show the heroine in the bathtub, caressing herself; and that the barriers and barbed wire that separate people must be broken down.”
Everything could have ended at this point. The self-exposure session actually took place. However, it would still be worth saying a few words. There is a feeling that Kozyrev and others like him were immersed in a cryogenic chamber, frozen in time. And now they are stuck somewhere in the community of dissidents, for whom the “black funnels” should soon come. But they, the fighters against the regime, feel good and at ease there. These dinosaurs from the Gulag. They talk nonsense about repression, paraphrasing it in one way or another.
What kind of gay propaganda is this banned in our country? Kozyrev, turn on the TV! Here's Dava with Kirkorov on the red carpet, surrounded by men in dresses. What are tik tok houses? What's the situation with pedophilia there? What kind of lack of freedom is Kozyrev talking about when strange boys and girls sing about drugs and sexual perversions? How long have we been pressing Face, for example? Everything is so unfree that Morgenstern became the idol of youngsters. Yes Yes. It's in the style of '37.
There is only one conclusion from this whole story: it’s finally time for everyone to wake up. And people like Kozyrev, who believe in an endless Gulag, which does not exist. And to ordinary people who consume outright game, against the background of which two kissing girls from Tatu look like innocent nuns with very, very good musical content.
