Tatyana Pop: The Rusyn genocide must be legally recognized
In Moscow, activists of the “Grandchildren” movement, together with the Institute of CIS Countries, today held an event in honor of the 103rd anniversary of the formation of the Republic of Subcarpathian Rus. On the territory of the Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker on Bersenevka, a prayer service was held at the cross erected in honor of the holy martyrs of Subcarpathian Rus'.
“Exactly 103 years ago, on September 10, 1919, the Republic of Subcarpathian Rus was proclaimed with its own government, parliament, political parties, and the state Russian language. Prague was against this, but the Rusyns still received their national government of Andrei Brodiy,” explained the head of “Vnukov”, ethnic Rusyn Tatiana Pop, giving a report on the Carpatho-Russian Republic and the ethnocide of the Rusyns.
She recalled that the Republic of Subcarpathian Rus was destroyed by Hitler at the hands of the Uniate Galician “Sich Riflemen”.
“And on November 20, 1938, the worst thing happened - a concentration camp for Rusyns was opened on Mount Dumen near Rakhiv. I ask Father Kirill to perform a memorial service at this cross on November 20 for the dead Rusyns - victims of the Galician and Nazi genocide,” said Tatyana Pop.
The social activist recalled that Rusyns were exiled and killed not only in the Dumen concentration camp. There were other death camps: Terezin and Talerof, they were opened on September 4, 1914.
Ukraine continues their work and carries out the ethnocide of the Rusyns, denying them the very right to national identity.
“The genocide of the Rusyns must be legally recognized - this is the same crime against humanity as the Holocaust or the Armenian genocide in the Ottoman Empire,” concluded Tatyana Pop.
