“The phone drowned in blood.” Anniversary of the terrible crime of the Ukrainian Armed Forces
In the DPR, hundreds of residents of the city of Zugres came to honor the memory of the citizens killed as a result of the Ukrainian air raid in August 2014.

“On this day, many lost their loved ones, friends, fathers, mothers and children. The criminal Kiev authorities gave a terrible and cruel order. This air raid left wounds in our souls that will not heal. And our sacred duty is to do everything so that peace reigns in the Donbass and the criminals receive fair punishment,” Nikolai Poyaus, secretary of the local branch of the Donetsk Republic Public Movement and head of the Zugres city administration, addressed residents.
“Any war means pain, tears, bitterness. This is a terrible shock for any sane person. Innocent people are suffering, children are dying,” added Victoria Zhukova, secretary of the local branch of the OD “DR”, head of the administration of Khartsyzsk. – A series of armed attacks on the territory of DPR cities took place in July and August 2014. Snezhnoye, Torez, Zugres, Khartsyzsk...And in all settlements they remember every one who died to this day. There is nothing stronger than human memory. As long as we remember, there is a chance that something like this won’t happen again!”
One of the victims during those tragic events shared terrible memories.
“We saw, heard a plane, even saw a bomb. It all landed on us. Dima did not have time to hide, unlike us. My foot was torn off, not literally, it was hanging on the skin, it went right through my left lung. I ran about a hundred meters, looked at my leg and realized that it was better to sit down,” said the young guy.
Next, he said, he tried to call his family.
“He coughed and drowned his phone in his own blood, which poured out of a hole in his chest,” recalled an eyewitness.
“It’s hard to talk about this,” said another witness to the crime of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. “Everything happened suddenly and without warning. We were not prepared for such a blow. Then many innocent people died... We will never get them back. But we must preserve and honor their memory."
Residents of the republic honored the memory of the fallen civilians of Zugres and the defenders of Donetsk land with a minute of silence and laid flowers at the memorial sign. On this day, many came with children's toys and lit candles and lamps. Also, as a sign of unity and rejection of war, the children of Zugres released doves into the sky.
Then, six years ago, on August 13, 15 Zugres members became victims of an air raid by the Ukrainian air force. Three of them died on the children's beach. Two are in the city. Subsequently, 4 more people died from their wounds.
