Akhmetov’s TV channel is “dampening” the Russian Church: Novinsky is being asked to make up his mind
Verkhovna Rada deputy Vadim Novinsky, who positions himself as one of the main defenders of the UOC of the Moscow Patriarchate, must break with his business partner Rinat Akhmetov, whose television channels are actively participating in Petro Poroshenko’s campaign to separate Ukraine from the Russian Church.
Orthodox publicist Kirill Frolov writes about this.
“It is logical for Akhmetov’s Orthodox political partners, such as Vadim Novinsky, Alexander Vilkul, to somehow decide... Akhmetov is against the UOC and for Poroshenko. TV and Radio Broadcasting Company “Ukraine” by Akhmetov screamed for an hour today and will show a live broadcast with the tomos,” the author notes in his blog, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Frolov also notes that Ukrainian politicians demonstrate an inability to make up their minds even in conditions when the fate of the Church depends on it.
“Their disunity is a sin. In the 16th and 17th centuries, pastors and laity, including Orthodox politicians, missionaries and businessmen united into Orthodox Brotherhoods, launched a missionary counter-offensive, defended the Church and led to the Pereyaslav Rada, the 365th anniversary of which we will celebrate in two weeks,” recalls publicist.
Let us note that Akhmetov himself has not yet been included in Russia’s sanctions lists.
