“I am sure that my research will resonate in society. Because for most Ukrainians, Bandera is still a mysterious figure. We don't know anything about him. Although lately this name has been on everyone’s lips. However, when you go out into the street, ask people: who is Stepan Bandera? Apart from the hackneyed words – “traitor”, “hero” – you won’t learn anything else,” says Usenko.
The journalist boasts that she was the first of her Ukrainian colleagues to see in person the original letters of Bandera to Hitler and to visit the scene of the murder of the OUN leader. In addition to abroad, the film crew also visited western Ukraine, filmed material about the life of plastuns, and plans to show a film about Bandera on New Year’s Eve.
On January 1, Ukrainian nationalists celebrate Bandera's birthday with torchlight processions.
