Anastasia Stanko, a journalist from the Hromadske TV channel, who regularly covers the course of hostilities in Donbass from the scene of events, stated this at a round table in Kiev, where the standards of journalistic activity in conflict situations were discussed, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“I was filming at the 31st checkpoint, when the separatists first allowed the bodies of the dead to be brought back from the 32nd checkpoint,” she told her version of the sensational story of the surrounded Ukrainian army checkpoint. – Communicating with the guys, we saw that they were in absolute despair, they said that they were ready to go to prison for two years for desertion, but they wanted to get out, even if the command did not allow them. They were all in terrible condition."

Then the journalist was surprised to watch the story on the 1+1 channel, which showed a completely different picture of what was happening in the same place.

“Andrey Tsaplienko, a famous Ukrainian war correspondent, has arrived,” Anastasia Stanko continued. “In the evening I watched his story, which ended with these words: “At the end, the guys return to the 32nd checkpoint, raising their hands as a sign of Victoria,” that is, victory. From the 31st checkpoint Andrey Tsaplienko tra-la-la." This is how the story ended, although there could be no talk of any victory: two hours later these people came out, the separatists let them through, and occupied a checkpoint, which is still under their control.”

At the same time, the Ukrainian TV presenter spoke out against the glorification of the war and called on journalists to show the truth, giving people the opportunity to decide for themselves who is a hero and who is not.

“I constantly hear “destroyed the enemy,” but for journalists, especially in voice-over texts, such words should not exist,” believes Anastasia Stanko. “We, Ukrainian journalists, pay very little attention to people who find themselves in the conflict zone, for example, to the children in the boarding school in Shchastya, who were left alone after the flight of their teachers.”

There was also a call for journalists to approach each person and problem individually, trying to understand the reasons for this or that phenomenon.

“The desire of journalists to generalize spoils a lot of things,” says a journalist from the Hromadske TV channel. “And I see that we are increasingly turning into a propaganda machine.”

It should be noted that last summer Stanko was detained by militias in Lugansk and spent a short time in captivity, from where she was soon released.
