Poroshenko's TV channel provoked a loud scandal
A scandal is developing in the Ukrainian media and blogosphere around an interview with Anastasia Prikhodko, a former singer who joined Yulia Tymoshenko’s team, aired on Channel 5, owned by President Petro Poroshenko.
In this interview, TV presenter Yanina Sokolova asked Prikhodko questions regarding Yulia Tymoshenko’s New Deal program, the economy and the resolution of the conflict in Donbass.
To this Prikhodko replied that she had only been in politics for a few days, did not understand economics, and was generally not yet ready for this kind of thinking.
“This is a very complex issue and at the moment I don’t want to be unfounded. Now I am also very closely deciding this issue for myself and, probably, a little later I will answer how it should be,” Prikhodko said, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
She also did not like the question regarding Tymoshenko’s income, declaring no business and empty tax reporting. At the same time, in the studio behind Prikhodko’s television cameras there was a support group of two political consultants, one of whom introduced himself as Konstantin and expressed dissatisfaction with the way Sokolova broadcast and asked questions. After his remark, Prikhodko took off the microphone and left the studio ahead of schedule.
This broadcast received lively discussion among Ukrainian political experts and journalists. Thus, political scientist Sergei Belashko noted in his blog that Prikhodko’s appearance on Poroshenko’s channel did not help, but harmed Tymoshenko.
“With such comrades-in-arms, there is no need for opponents... To go to the site of your main competitor and present yourself there in the worst possible light... I am surprised at my own delicacy,” the expert noted.
But, according to journalist and psychologist Larisa Voloshina, what should cause more resonance is not Prikhodko’s empty answers, but the words of TV presenter Yanina Sokolova, who proposed her own version of a solution to the Donbass conflict.
“As much as anyone would like to use this word, it is a conflict... Firstly, I think there must be a compromise. The compromise is that what is not of utmost importance for us at the moment, but what is of utmost importance for them. Well, there, the situation with the language is something that has been speculation all along. In fact, you and I, both before and after this, can see a bunch of people in the center of Kyiv who speak Russian, there is no problem here, this is speculation. It is possible that some kind of authoritarianism should be given to these regions in certain provisions of the laws, perhaps for a while. And I think that the maximum rights of national minorities that exist in these regions are a manifestation of freedom, which in fact exists in everything now. This is the language and authority at the moment,” Sokolova said.
“The fact that society calmly swallowed this interview in the “dumb and dumber” format is, in my opinion, the biggest verdict on the entire post-Maidan era. The main ones in it were not Prikhodko’s answers, but Sokolova’s question, which opaquely hinted at the “internal conflict in Donbass.” The artificially constructed choice between capitulation and “painful compromise” easily reaches the masses. This invitation to be reasonable from patented fools no longer irritates or causes indignation. The biggest meanness during the war is the propaganda of surrender,” Voloshina commented on the broadcast.
Let us recall that Prikhodko previously announced the end of her singing career and joined the political force of Yulia Tymoshenko.
And Sokolov not so long ago offered to “give” Crimea to the Americans.
