The TV channel of Kuchma’s son-in-law joined in eradicating the Russian language from Kyiv
The ICTV television channel, owned by Ukrainian oligarch Viktor Pinchuk, son-in-law of ex-President Leonid Kuchma, has joined the campaign to harass Russian speakers in Kyiv.
The news release included a story that was loyal to the decision of the Kiev City Council, which obliged to translate the service sector in the capital into Ukrainian, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

The author of the resolution was deputy, member of the VO “Svoboda” Yuriy Sirotyuk. According to him, waiters and other restaurant staff are required to switch to Ukrainian in order “not to provoke a conflict.”
“Why we go to stores is to get a positive emotion, and not just a product. What does a Ukrainian-speaking consumer get when entering a Russian-language establishment? He receives a negative emotion. When Ukrainian becomes the first language by definition, start speaking Ukrainian, and then, in order not to create further conflict, switch to the language that is convenient for both of you,” said Sirotyuk.
And Svoboda lawyer Sidor Kizin assures that waiters do not need to know Ukrainian thoroughly to satisfy the nationalists: “Ten words are enough to teach even a Chinese to serve in Ukrainian. These are “Good afternoon”, “please order”, “what do you want?”, “please”, “please”, “bon appetit”, “goodbye”, “all the best”.
