The TV tower is the main enemy: Ukrainian saboteurs tried to commit a terrorist attack in Donetsk

Employees of the Ministry of State Security of the DPR detained a soldier of the 8th regiment of the Ukrainian special operations forces, who was planning to blow up the main broadcasting television tower of the republic.

“Sugerey Oleg Viktorovich, born November 16, 1976, Kharkov. In April 2014, he was called up for mobilization and served in the 22nd motorized infantry battalion as a rifleman in sector “A” of the Lugansk region. Then I transferred to the 37th battalion as a sapper in the “B” and “M” sectors of Mariupol. He was engaged in the construction of minefields in Avdeevka. Then he underwent special training near Zhitomir at the training ground. He acquired skills in sniper work, mine explosives, tactical medicine, terrain orientation and fire training. Assigned to the 8th Special Operations Forces Regiment as a sniper. They were stationed in the Luhansk region in the city of Starobelsk, where they controlled the demarcation line.

After the service, an offer was received from the counterintelligence of the SBU. After thinking, I agreed to this, because I wanted to work in the Main Structure, and I was given the task of committing an act of sabotage in the city of Donetsk. For these purposes, I received a second fake passport from the employees in someone else’s name, and was sent to the city of Donetsk. A safe house was set up here.

The operation plan included four stages: adaptation to the city (for these purposes I received instructions, bought a map to navigate the city); reconnaissance of the telemast object itself (security surveillance, presence of persons and approaches to the object itself); the explosion itself; evacuation (departure). Already at the second stage, I began to receive funds from the curator: explosives, weapons - all this was in the safe house. I went, checked, looked at the area, and at the second stage was detained,” the Ukrainian serviceman said during interrogation.

“PolitNavigator” managed to obtain a comment from the press service of the DPR MGB on the detained saboteur, as well as a video of Sugerei’s detention.

“The main person involved, the leader of a group of saboteurs who planned to blow up a TV tower, said that they all came from the 8th special forces regiment of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. The soldiers of this regiment have already repeatedly taken part in sabotage. Thus, a group was recently detained in the LPR. From this we conclude that this regiment was specially formed to carry out sabotage on the territory of the republics. All of them are professionals, their commander is an elite sniper, who has repeatedly taken part in breakthroughs - covering groups of saboteurs who tried to penetrate the territory of the republics. In personal communication, he confirmed all this and said that he had suffered many casualties, including among the civilian population.

The operation to neutralize them was planned by us long ago; the group was detained back in February, but for operational reasons the information was made public only now. It is important that for the Ukrainian authorities, one of the main targets is facilities related to television broadcasting. They are very annoyed that our towers are broadcasting to territory controlled by Ukraine. And Turchynov repeatedly stated that they would suppress the signal of the “separatists,” but since they failed to do this either politically or technically, they decided to act through sabotage. And we understand perfectly well that this is not the last such attempt, that they will continue. Therefore, our television tower is under heavy security,” the MGB emphasized.
