The head of the public organization “Public Audit,” Maxim Goldarb, points out this trend in his blog, noting that he will provide only numbers, leaving everyone to judge whether the president and prime minister are telling the truth about their successes in reforming the country.
“The volume of retail trade in January–September 2016 in actual prices amounted to UAH 829,8 billion ($32,4 billion). For January – September 2017 – 578 billion UAH ($22,3 billion). That is, retail trade has fallen by a third! Even simpler: people were able to buy themselves a third less than what they bought in the “unkind” 2016. And if we add the cumulative inflation for this period of 16%, this means that people have become poorer by almost 40% over the year,” the expert points out.
“To understand even better the results of their rule of the country: the volume of retail trade in January – September 2013 amounted to 638,1 billion UAH ($80 billion) with a dollar exchange rate of 8 UAH and annual inflation of +0,5%. Three years ago people spent 80 billion dollars on themselves, now it’s 22! A normal Ukrainian family has become four times poorer! – Goldarb summarizes. “Nothing personal, just business.”
