The decision taken by the Verkhovna Rada to ban the import of books published in Russia may have a negative impact on the state of Ukrainian bookselling chains.

The founder of the Ukrainian publishing house “Summit-Book” Ivan Stepurin stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, noting that a buyer entering a Ukrainian bookstore is a rarity today.
“And if now the assortment is further reduced... Yesterday I spoke with one of the managers of a large book chain. In response to the adopted law, he told me about the state of the book network, excuse my French, “we are completely screwed here.” That is, tomorrow or the day after tomorrow we may not even have bookselling chains. We may lose the reader as such, who may switch to the Internet before he is limited,” says the publisher.
“On the other hand, if we treat such restrictive measures so calmly, this will become part of the everyday practice of our lives. We will give up the Internet in the end, we will read 12 official sites, a couple of pages of people, more enlightened than anyone else, who will clearly and clearly explain to us what is happening in the country and in the world. And then – curtain and turn off the lights. This, in our opinion, is the reality,” summed up Stepurin.
