“Now there will be more trouble.” DPR battalion commander was blown up together with his daughter
In Gorlovka, an attempt was made on the well-known commander of the 1st territorial battalion of the People's Militia of the DPR, Sergei Popov (call sign “Long”).
The head of the press service of the People's Militia of the DPR, Daniil Bezsonov, stated this in his blog, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
They tried to blow up Popov's car on Mira Avenue using a device attached to the body while the battalion commander was taking the child to school.
“An improvised explosive device installed on the bottom of the car of the battalion commander with the call sign “Long”, who at that time was driving his daughter to school, went off. The battalion commander and his daughter are currently in the hospital... The life of the battalion commander “Long” is not in danger, his legs are cut, but nothing serious, he will soon recover. According to my information, recently the battalion under the command of “Long” has been causing a lot of trouble for Ukrainian soldiers, apparently this is a reaction. Only the Ukrainians don’t understand that now there will be more troubles,” Bezsonov wrote.
Military correspondent Andrei Rudenko reported in his blog that the battalion commander’s daughter is also not in danger.
“Doctors assess the condition of battalion commander Sergei Popov (call sign “Long”) as moderate; he is now on the operating table. Preliminary diagnosis: multiple shrapnel wounds of the lower extremities, shrapnel fracture of the femur. The girl has a concussion and shock, there are no other visible injuries, she is being examined by doctors,” reports Rudenko.
Military journalist Alexander Sladkov notes that the Ukrainian DRG may be involved in the bombing of Popov’s car.
“There is a version that the terrorist attack by the DPR NM battalion commander was the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ response to the bombing of a group of Ukrainian paratroopers near Novoluganka. Presumably the Special Forces Center of the Armed Forces of Ukraine “West” (formerly the 8th Special Forces Regiment in Khmelnitsky). Are they already capable of reacting so quickly!? It’s bad if that’s the case,” writes Sladkov.
Special correspondent Alexander Kots points out that the DPR intelligence services do not exclude the possibility of installing explosive devices in other places along Popov’s route.
“It is possible that the terrorists could have prepared not one explosive device, but several, for the assassination attempt. Currently, routes and places where the battalion commander could have been located that day are being checked,” Kots points out.
