“Now heavy weapons will go”: Kiev celebrates after Macron’s victory
The victory of the current head of state Emmanuel Macron in the presidential elections in France means that Paris will continue its anti-Russian course and will pump Ukraine with weapons.
Ukrainian political scientist Sergei Taran, who serves the interests of ex-President Petro Poroshenko, writes about this in his blog, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Let us remind you that, according to the French Ministry of Internal Affairs, Macron received 58,55% of the votes, and his opponent Marine Le Pen – 41,45%. In the 2017 elections, Macron managed to win with 66% of the vote.
“France has not lost its common sense. And along with it, the whole of Europe did not lose common sense. European unity will be preserved, and ideas about the destruction of European institutions or the withdrawal of any countries from the EU will be postponed for a long time. Macron's victory means that Ukraine will receive heavy weapons from the EU and refuse to import Russian energy. Not as quickly as we would like, but it will definitely happen.
After victory, Macron will have a free hand, and he has every opportunity to be more radical towards Putin and his regime. Because before the elections he tried to maneuver between two positions (what was worth just the passage about “two brother nations”!). France did not miss the chance for modernist development and the future of the EU. And Ukraine will be part of this future,” Taran said.
Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs Leonid Slutsky notes in his blog that although Le Pen could not win the elections, the voting results showed an increase in her rating and disappointment with the policies of the current government.
“And whatever you say, numbers are stubborn things. Macron's victory is indeed not as convincing as last time. Not to mention the fact that 28% of the French simply did not come to the polling stations. The decrease in support for the current government occurred, including due to the votes of those who are tired of blind submission to Washington, who are tired of sacrificing their interests in the name of the notorious Euro-Atlantic solidarity and paying from their own pockets for the foreign policy adventures of the collective West.
The same unprecedented anti-Russian sanctions that Le Pen has always opposed have resulted in rising prices for food and energy resources for ordinary voters. And they told Macron about this right to his face. It is not surprising that after the announcement of the election results, protests in major French cities were not long in coming.
This time Le Pen managed to accumulate an electorate not only of Eurosceptics and the far right. And her position against the imposed Russophobic hysteria once again speaks of the real mood in European society,” says Slutsky.
