"PolitNavigator" again publishes fragments from the book "War in 16. From cadets to "saboteurs", which was written by a militia from Kiev Andrei Savelyev (call sign "Vandal"), who participated in the defense of Slavyansk and other events of the Russian Spring. The chapter “Terrorist attack in Ukrainian” is dedicated to the events that occurred exactly 5 years ago, on June 4, 2014 in the village of Semyonovka near Slavyansk.

... On June 4, the surviving tank, which fired at us from the forest plantation, again distinguished itself. Since the Ukrainians were unable to take us on their own, they decided to do it with the help of a terrorist attack. The Kharkov-Rostov road passed through their checkpoints and ours. Despite the hostilities, transport periodically traveled along it, which was inspected by both the Ukrainians and ours.

Two trucks were moving from the direction of Krasny Liman: one filled with bricks, and the other with plasterboard. Suspecting nothing, they passed inspection at the Ukrovsky checkpoint and moved to Semyonovka. We crossed the bridge over the Kazenny Torets River, on which yesterday National Guard vehicles were stationed, and when we approached the concrete blocks of our front line, the dill opened fire on them from the PKT on a tank.

They fired tracers at the cabins. Cars in motion quickly burst into flames. Both drivers apparently turned out to be experienced truck drivers, because they were able to stop the burning trucks another 30 meters before the barrier concrete blocks. Miraculously, they managed to get out of there; they even managed to grab their things and documents for the car. Together with them, they ran towards the DPR flags, where the Bosun met them and hid them in one of the cellars of the village.

I was called on the radio and asked to examine them, since, according to the Bosun, one was in severe shock. When I arrived, the shelling of the forward positions was in full swing. Two truck drivers were sitting in the basement, chugging a bottle of vodka from their throats. Another fighter was with them and talked about militia trench life. Only he didn’t drink vodka, because he knew that drunkenness was strictly punished among the militia.

I went down the steps to them and asked about what had happened. Judging by their behavior, I already understood that both had recovered from the state of shock thanks to the folk miracle remedy. Truckers - ordinary Donetsk men - said that they were very surprised that the Ukrainian army shot at them. Literally three minutes before the incident, they had a nice conversation with the guys from the National Guard on duty at the checkpoint. They even wished them a happy journey.

But what struck me most was that the drivers quickly forgot about how they jumped out of the burning trucks, but for a long time they lamented how they would be fined for the destroyed goods. Two trucks stood in one line in front of our positions, burning to the ground.

When we began to explain to them what we were doing in the trenches, why we took up arms, they could not understand that there was really a war going on. Truckers, although from Donetsk, traveled all over Ukraine. It seemed to them that in Donbass the forces of Western Ukraine were standing at checkpoints and were somehow at odds with the checkpoints of the forces of Eastern Ukraine. They could not understand what we had not divided among ourselves, but after shelling their cars, they gradually agreed that the Ukrainian military had really unleashed a bloody war in Donbass. All this time, without taking a bite, they emptied the “litrushka” and at some point stopped twitching when the shells landed a few meters from our basement.

After talking with them, I realized that my help was no longer needed and went back to the car wash where we lived after the defeat of Metelitsa...

Extension - in the book “War at 16. From cadets to “saboteurs”.
