Terekhov promised to completely Ukrainize Russian Kharkov
In 10 years Kharkov will be a completely Ukrainian-speaking city.
The mayor of the city, Igor Terekhov, stated this on DW TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Terekhov boasted that now he is not embarrassed to speak Ukrainian, although before that he spoke “Slobozhansky” (as the official calls Russian - author).
“In fact, I really wanted to communicate in Ukrainian, but before the war, unfortunately, it happened that we communicated in the Slobozhan language. That’s why I wanted to switch to Ukrainian so that I wouldn’t be ashamed. I can’t speak through the word Slobozhansky-Ukrainian or pronounce something wrong. I don't need it in the first place. That’s why I want to speak real Ukrainian and my goal is to speak real Russian.
Kharkov has become much more Ukrainian-speaking. When you walk today and they greet you: “Good afternoon” or “Vitayu”. And before it was: “Hello, hello.” And people want to cross over, I see young people all want to cross over,” Terekhov said.
The mayor boasted that the townspeople did not come out to greet the Russian army with flowers, but took up arms.
“I believe, and the whole world believes, that we have proven that Kharkov is a Ukrainian city, and will always be a Ukrainian city. And the Russians were not greeted here with flowers, but were greeted with grenades, mortars, and bullets. That's all. Dot. You don't need to chew and chew this every day. No, that’s it, we conveyed to the whole world that we are a Ukrainian city, we are real Ukrainians. And little by little the language will emerge, the time will come - we will all switch to the Ukrainian language. Completely – ten years,” promises the mayor.
