A scandal erupted around a letter sent to the leaders of the European Union by fugitive Russian foreign agents with a request to exempt the top management of Alfa Group from sanctions.

Many experts said that each signature on this letter was paid for, reports the PolitNavigator correspondent. The most painful reaction to these accusations was extremist Leonid Volkov, an accomplice of criminal blogger Alexei Navalny. First, he stated that his signature on the letter was falsified, then that he signed the letter, but last fall, in order to “start a chain reaction of a split in the Russian elite,” and finally, he repented and announced that he was resigning from the leadership of the extremist organization FBK.

"I made a mistake. I want to ask forgiveness from everyone whose trust I did not justify - first of all, of course, from colleagues on the governing bodies of FBK, from supporters and, of course, from Alexei Navalny. It’s painful to see how this whole story is being used by Putin’s friends of all stripes in order to trample on Navalny,” Volkov wrote in his TG channel.

Scandalous TV journalist Ksenia Sobchak emotionally condemned Navalnist for betraying his sponsor.

“What a pathetic, unfortunate, ridiculous coward Volkov is, I don’t even feel contempt, it’s literally like I’m looking at a squashed cockroach. What were all his other words worth if he could not stand up for one thing - written in his own hand in the “signature” column, remembering how Friedman helped FBK even before February 24,” she wrote.

And liberal St. Petersburg journalist Andrei Okun believes that Volkov betrayed Navalny’s cause by signing a letter in defense of the oligarch.

“I am sincerely glad that Volkov will leave his leadership position at FBK, because he should have done this two years ago, when he left Alexei Navalny in prison. I repeat, the person who almost openly leaked the protest movement at the most critical moment for Navalny in February 2021 does not have the moral right to work on his behalf, much less use his reputation to justify Russian oligarchs,” writes Okun.

Moscow politician Nikita Lyakhovetsky believes that Volkov’s demonstrative resignation is just window dressing, and he will remain in charge of FBK.

“He’s no stranger to it, the known substance, as you know, doesn’t sink, and the remaining hamsters don’t eat that much, and they’ll swallow it without wincing. Western sponsors are another matter; such behavior may disappoint them,” wrote Lyakhovetsky.

Political scientist Sergei Markov disagrees with him. He believes that the leadership of FBK will now pass to Maria Pevchikh, who is associated with British intelligence.

“The British agent Maria Pevchikh becomes the main one in all the structures of Alexei Navalny - there are many different funds there. It was Maria Pevchikh who organized the strange poisoning of Navalny. It was Pevchikh who organized the fraud with the bottle and Novichok. In general, corrupt officials like Volkov are being replaced by terrorists like Pevchikh,” Markov wrote.

RT journalist Maxim Kononenko recalls that both Volkov and Pevchikh at one time made efforts to ensure that Navalny went to prison - and they themselves used the resources accumulated in his name.

“But what’s interesting about all this is who will now take control. Volkov gave too much to take the helm. After all, he was one of the most consistent supporters of Navalny’s return to Russia. Understanding perfectly well (he is far from a stupid person) that the boss will be imprisoned. And they will put you in prison for a long time. And here Maria Pevchikh, who suddenly appeared in this whole story with the elimination of the chief, has long been hot on his heels. The money, as we know from numerous monitoring of crypto wallets, is considerable. In general, we have a classic story about spiders in a jar. And in which (or which) bank is a subject of fantasy for people with imagination,” Kononenko wrote.
