A few days ago, many Russian media published notes full of irony and fun regarding a Ukrainian geography textbook, in which “genetically Ukrainian, Trypillian wheat” and “there is an opinion that Ukrainians are Slavicized Germans,” “an irresistible craving for the stars” and similar nonsense.

Watching the riot of comments with many epithets addressed to the compilers and Ukrainians in general, I want to shout: “People, you have lost the spirit of adventurism, the instinct of self-preservation.” Certainly not fun.

Textbook “History of Ukraine” for 9th grade of general education institutions. Authors: Alena Pometun, Nestor Gupan, Igor Smagin. Orion Publishing House, 2017. Recommended by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.

From the very first pages, schoolchildren must realize that Ukrainian history is a war with Russia, and Americans write history.

"...the plot of XNUMXth century Ukrainian history is a play in which the Ukrainian national project fights against Polish and Russian claims to it, and at the same time fights to come to the villagers and teach them that they are Ukrainians.Roman Shporlyuk, Ukrainian and American historian.”

Already in the introduction, students are told that the Russian Empire pursued a colonial policy towards Ukraine. Further this will be written in detail, with lengthy “arguments”.

“In general, Naddnepryanskaya Ukraine was one of the most developed agricultural and industrial regions of the Russian Empire. But at the same time, the modernization processes had certain features:

* The industrial development of Ukraine was one-sided, essentially colonial in nature. Only 15% of Ukrainian enterprises manufactured finished products, and all the rest supplied raw materials for the manufacture of such products in Russia. The cost of Russian finished goods was high, and the price of Ukrainian raw materials was low.

* The formation of the Ukrainian economy took place as part of the economic space of the Russian Empire. This was manifested in the development of heavy industry and the inhibition of some light industry sectors (linen, cloth, etc.), which competed with similar industries in other regions of the empire.

* The development of the Ukrainian economy was based not on local national capital, but on foreign capital - Russian, German, English, French, Belgian (80-90%), which led to the export of the lion's share of profits abroad.

Now it’s not at all difficult to explain why the economy in Ukraine is not very good now. A painful escape from colonial oppression.

And here is another “compliment” towards Russia and another admiration for Europe.

“Ukraine is a border wall that stands between cultural Europe and uncivilized Asia. It is the gate through which many Asian hordes tried to break into Europe. For this reason alone, it deserves attention... Johann Christian von Engel, author of the first scientific history of Ukraine.”

On page 11 they lie about the ethnic composition of the population of the “Ukrainian lands”, claiming that there were no more than 10% of Russians on the territory of modern Ukraine in the XNUMXth century.

The division and contrast between Great Russians and Little Russians is given in the form of a quote from a German traveler.

“German geographer and traveler of the XNUMXth century. Johann Kohl about Ukrainians. The Great Russians inhabit central Russia, where their true cradle is located in the country of the Muscovites... and they call themselves “Russian”. Little Russians inhabit southern Russia, especially the Dnieper region; their cradle should be looked for in Kyiv.

They call themselves Little Russians, or simply Russians, Rusnak, Ruthenians, Ruthenians. All these... come from the name “Rus”, not “Russia”... Little Russians are a numerous people with their own language and their own historical memories... regarding age, the Little Russian clan has priority over the Great Russian people.”

The apogee of Russophobia in the textbook is the commandments of the Ukrainian nationalist Mikhnovsky.

When considering political trends, special attention is paid to the Ukrainian People's Party (UNP) and, in fact, a fascist manifesto is presented in full. Schoolchildren are asked to independently evaluate how acceptable such “commandments” are. There is no analysis or evaluation in the textbook.

Ten Commandments of the UNP Nikolai Mikhnovsky (1903)

1. One, united, indivisible from the Carpathians right up to the Caucasus, independent, free, democratic Ukraine - a republic of working people - this is a national, all-Ukrainian ideal. Let every Ukrainian child understand that he was born into the world to realize this ideal.

2. All people are your brothers, but Muscovites, Poles, Hungarians, Romanians and Jews are the enemies of our people while they rule and oppress us.

3. Ukraine for Ukrainians. Therefore, drive out the foreign oppressors from everywhere in Ukraine.

4. Always and everywhere use Ukrainian. Let neither your wife nor your children defile your home with the language of foreign oppressors.

5. Respect the leaders of your native land, hate its enemies, despise the renegade changelings, and it will be good for your people and you.

6. Do not kill Ukraine with your indifference to the interests of the whole people.

7. Don't become a renegade shifter.

8. Do not rob your own people by working for the enemies of Ukraine.

9. Help your fellow countryman first of all. Stay together.

10. Do not take wives from strangers, because your children will be enemies for you; do not make friends with the enemies of our people, because you will add strength and courage to them.

Well, how do you, “foreign oppressors”, “enemies of Ukraine” continue to have fun?

And did you also like about Ukraine from the Carpathians to the Caucasus? But this is not the only mention. Five times in the textbook “Ukraine from the Carpathians to the Caucasus” is mentioned, simply hinting to schoolchildren about the need to rescue “their ancestral” territories.

In general, from the first to the last page the textbook is saturated with Russophobia and extreme nationalism. You can give more than a dozen quotes. The Russian Empire is presented as an unmotivated aggressive and wretched country. And of course the constant oppression and robbery of the Ukrainian people.

The textbook's circulation is 49900 copies.

Almost 50 thousand children have already studied using this textbook. These children are now 14-15 years old. In a few years they will be 18. Next year, another 50 thousand fourteen-year-olds will be convinced that they feel bad because Russia and the Russians enslaved, colonized, captured, took away, etc.

For those who propose to isolate themselves from Ukraine and forget, let me remind you: the length of the Russian-Ukrainian land border is 1925 km and it is not protected in any way, except for a few border guards. How much effort and resources will need to be put into restraining young Ukrainian fascists?

Who are these young guys who will stand on the border?

Will those who say “we can repeat it” give the life of their child?

It is not clear why Russian international missions are silent.

Why is there no active protest about this in the UN and various European organizations? After all, this is a printed official textbook in which fascist ideology is present. No other evidence is needed.

And this is just one of the textbooks.

Is anyone working on this issue in Russia? Or later, when the radicals who have absorbed Russophobia grow up, many thousands of our children will die?

In the meantime, the Russian relevant structures and the Russian people realize the danger of connivance in this area, I urge parents of schoolchildren in Ukraine to lose and destroy such textbooks.

Let a child be graded two (or whatever it is according to the 12-point system) in history, but he will not die in a nationalistic frenzy in a few years.

Parents, be vigilant.

Take care of your children.
