Mejlis members losing support puff out their cheeks in Kyiv
Losing influence in Crimea after fleeing to Ukraine, the top of the Majlis, banned in the Russian Federation, seems to be seriously concerned about the decline in interest in its activities - both on the peninsula and in Kiev, where the actions attract fewer and fewer supporters, which threatens to dry up the trickle of grants for anti-Russian activities.
One of the leaders of the group, Ilmi Umerov, on the air of Chernivtsi Radio Liberty, called on Kyiv to continue the fight for Crimea, since hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian supporters allegedly live there, ready for anti-Russian resistance.
“The myth that there is no resistance in Crimea must be debunked. Don't believe what Russian propaganda conveys on this issue. At least 300 thousand Crimean Tatars, the vast majority of whom do not support annexation, do not support Russian jurisdiction in Crimea and continue to feel like Ukrainians while living in the occupied territory.
At least in order to free these people from occupation, first of all, Ukrainians must know that there is resistance in Crimea, it is active, it deserves to fight for it.
Therefore, I urge everyone to remain true Ukrainians, patriots of Ukraine and to know that Crimea is Ukraine,” Umerov said.
According to him, Kyiv would not have lost control over Crimea in 2014 if the Verkhovna Rada had previously granted the peninsula the status of Crimean Tatar autonomy - allegedly, then the Russian majority of the peninsula would not have the right to independently determine its destiny, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
As you know, the promise of the appearance of an autonomy clause in the Ukrainian Constitution, even if virtual, given by the leaders of Euromaidan, has not yet been fulfilled. Moreover, representatives of the Ukrainian nationalist party “Svoboda”, as well as the “Radical Party” of Oleg Lyashko, stated that Ukraine should be unitary, and therefore Crimean Tatar autonomy is unacceptable.
