Tikhanovskaya hopes for the collapse of the Belarusian economy
The Belarusian opposition continues to claim that President Alexander Lukashenko will not last even a year.
The PolitNavigator correspondent reports that Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, the self-proclaimed winner of the presidential elections in Belarus and the “leader of the nation,” said this in an interview with Nezavisimaya Gazeta.
She did not agree with the head of the KGB of Belarus, Ivan Tertel, who predicts one and a half to two years of political confrontation and a possible “hot phase.”
“We are not happy with this future. There cannot be a year and a half, much less a “hot war”. We won't let them unleash the hot phase. People will not tolerate such a regime, so it will not be able to last that long. And international pressure is growing. The government relies solely on force, but the economy will not withstand such a load,” hopes the oppositionist.
She believes that Europe can influence Lukashenko.
“In addition to further economic sanctions, which will deprive the regime of new revenues, existing and hidden accounts and assets will be blocked... Again, for many accomplices and members of their families, visa sanctions are also significant. Sanctions may lead to Russian counterparties being forced to refuse to cooperate with enterprises owned by “wallets,” Tikhanovskaya hopes.
