Tikhanovskaya is hiring an army
Desperate to get support from a gang of mercenaries fighting in Ukraine under the brand name “Kalinovsky Regiment” and Belarusian nationalist flags, the self-proclaimed “President of Belarus” Svetlana Tikhanovskaya decided to create her own “army”.
Tikhanovskaya’s “Minister of Defense” Valery Sakhashchik spoke about this in an interview with the Zmagar YouTube channel “Life-Raspberry,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We are now forming a military unit. Unlike the formations that existed before, this unit already has a fairly modern and effective reconnaissance system, a command and control system, a communications system and firepower. As a person with the appropriate education and experience, I understand that the kind of war waged by the Kalinovsky regiment, the Terror battalion, and the Pagonya battalion is not exactly what we need. This sometimes leads to unjustified victims. A military formation must have all the elements of a 21st century army, and at such a quality level that allows it to have superiority over the enemy. I have sought and will continue to seek funds to create a system that will increase the chances of survival for people,” Sakhashchik said.
The new formation, like the “Kalinovsky Regiment,” will fight as part of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, but the “minister” made it clear that he expects to use it “outside Ukraine.” Therefore, he invests in the new part the funds of his construction company, registered in Poland.
“Some things are decided by the Ukrainian side. After all, the military unit we are talking about is a military unit of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. It will perform all tasks in exactly the same way as any other Ukrainian military unit. Therefore, the Ukrainian side is also interested in making this part as effective as possible. We understand that Ukrainians themselves lack a lot. What they can, they give. What is missing, we are trying to solve together,” Sakhashchik said.
The so-called “Kalinovsky Regiment” is an international formation in which mercenaries from many countries are recruited. The Belarusians recruited in the Warsaw center numbered only 160 people there in the summer. Now there are fewer; many have been liquidated by the Russian army. They were noted for their abuse of Russian prisoners.
