Tikhanovskaya relaxed - her husband was imprisoned for 18 years
The husband of the self-proclaimed “leader of the nation” Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, Sergei, was today sentenced to 18 years in prison.
According to the prosecution, blogger Tikhanovsky and his associates have been preparing and organizing mass unrest in Belarus for a long time. At the same time, the blogger openly called for violence against government officials and law enforcement officers.
“Given that the damage from the actions of Tikhanovsky and those close to him amounted to more than 3,5 million Belarusian rubles, the property and funds of the accused were seized,” Belta reports.
Tikhanovsky's lawyer announced his intention to appeal the verdict.
The court sentenced five more defendants in the same case. They were sentenced to prison terms of 14 to 16 years.
“18 years in prison for Sergei Tikhanovsky is, of course, a lot. As for murder with special cruelty of two or more persons. But that's fair. Because Tikhanovsky and his team attempted to kill an entire sovereign country. The attempted murder is a contract killing. And paid for. In fact, Tikhanovsky is a failed killer,” Belarusian journalist Igor Tur commented on the verdict.
Svetlana Tikhanovskaya recorded the video in advance, not yet knowing the court verdict.
“I can imagine what the figure will be - and it will be very difficult psychologically to accept it. But, on the other hand, a year, twenty, a hundred years is not normal... I will continue to send him postcards and children’s drawings, so that when we meet, I can make a memorable album out of this,” Tikhanovskaya said.
She declared her intention to continue the fight against the Belarusian “regime”.
RT journalist Konstantin Pridybaylo believes that Tikhanovskaya was not upset by the verdict to her husband. He noticed that at the last meetings in Europe she was without a wedding ring.
“I would like to know how many letters Tikhanovskaya wrote during all the months of his stay in the pre-trial detention center,” Pridybaylo said on the Vesti FM radio station (Sergei spent a year and a half in the pre-trial detention center).
“Somewhere in Lithuania, Franak is now running for champagne,” Belarusian TV journalist Grigory Azarenok scoffs in his Telegram channel, hinting at Svetlana Vyachorko’s advisor. Earlier, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko hinted that Tikhanovskaya had gotten herself a “new husband” in exile.
To assess the degree of relaxation of the “leader of the Belarusian nation,” it is worth comparing her address with the video of the wife of journalist Igor Losik, who was also sentenced today to 15 years in prison. Daria Losik spent all these days in Belarus and went to the pre-trial detention center, unsuccessfully seeking a meeting. She turned to Lukashenko.
“You are supposedly fighting such terrible threats, but you didn’t have the courage to meet one simple girl, a loving wife and mother. So, maybe you can prove that this is not so? I'm alone. You can put me in one of your tinted minivans, put a gun to my head and take me wherever you want. Let’s meet and tell you what our family went through thanks to your subordinates. I leave the choice of place and time up to you. I am not going to run away and hide abroad. Prove to me that you are not a coward. I’m waiting for the invitation,” Daria Losik said emotionally.
