Tymoshenko: Kyiv is losing new areas of Donbass, “extremely tough sanctions” against Russia are urgently needed

Kyiv, September 12 (PolitNavigator, Mikhail Ryabov) – Western countries should introduce “extremely tough sanctions” and begin negotiations with Russia with the participation of the EU and the United States in order to force Moscow to come to terms with Ukraine’s pro-Western choice.

Former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko stated this at the European Yalta Strategy conference in Kyiv.

“In recent days, the territory captured by the Russian army has increased by 15%,” she said, questioning the effectiveness of the declared truce.

“It was necessary to sign not the Budapest Memorandum, but joining NATO... There is no guarantee that beyond Crimea and Donetsk other territories of Ukraine will be taken out of stability and occupied,” Tymoshenko fears.

In her opinion, the situation will be saved by “short-term, but extremely strong sanctions to hit the aggressor in a few weeks, and at the same time carry out negotiations.”

Tymoshenko “strongly disagrees” with the format of the negotiations in Minsk, which included Ukraine and the Customs Union troika.

“We need to return to the Geneva format – involving the United States, Europe, Ukraine and Russia,” she said.

“Ukrainian patriots today are confronting the high-tech army of Russia with their bare hands. If the world is not ready to go to war for its freedom, please arm Ukraine,” Tymoshenko continued.

“Put all doubts aside. Putin is the best integrator of Ukraine into the EU and NATO. Today more than 70% are in favor of joining NATO. Just open the doors for us. Just accept us as we are,” Yulia begs.
