Tymoshenko demanded independence from Constantinople
Ukraine must receive a truly independent church, which will not be subordinate to the Patriarchate of Constantinople.
Verkhovna Rada deputy and leader of the Batkivshchyna party Yulia Tymoshenko stated this on the air of the “Freedom of Speech” program on the ICTV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Tomos is the independence of our Orthodox Church. I am very sorry that it was made into such a political tool. We have the right to receive our own independent Orthodoxy. We are Kievan Rus, which generally spread Christianity throughout our part of the world. We have a special right to an independent Orthodox Church. But this is not the end of the process,” the politician said.
She also noted that she “with all my heart” respects the leader of the Kyiv schismatics, Mikhail Denisenko, whom she called “Patriarch Filaret.”
“This is a strong man who has preserved an independent church for us. He said that the first important step had been taken, we had received the metropolis from Constantinople and must move on. He said that we need to achieve that the Ukrainian Church is recognized as a patriarchy. Because the metropolis is a dependence on Constantinople. The Patriarchate is the local Orthodox Church. Many countries received the right to have patriarchates from Constantinople. I completely agree with what Patriarch Filaret says. We must move on,” Tymoshenko concluded.
In this case, as PolitNavigator reported, Kyiv experts noticed that the rating of current President Petro Poroshenko after “an intense two-month “tomosobesie”” began to approach Yulia Tymoshenko’s rating, although previously she was in the lead with a double superiority.
