Tymoshenko scares Ukraine with African famine
If Ukraine opens the land market and sells it off, the country will face a famine similar to what is happening now in Madagascar.
Former Prime Minister of Ukraine, Verkhovna Rada deputy Yulia Tymoshenko stated this on TV channel 112, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the politician, Ukrainian land will be bought up by large transnational corporations immediately after the market opens, if parliament finally makes such a decision, and will fill it with chemicals.
“If he does this now, if he really breaks the whole society and sells agricultural land, then, of course, no matter what he writes in this law, this land will be bought up by large monopolies. It doesn’t matter whether they will be of Ukrainian origin, these big monopolies, or they will be of global origin.
It is important that the land will turn into a speculative commodity, and then it will turn into the monopoly of large corporations that will not produce environmentally friendly products, like farmers, will not process raw materials, like farmers, into finished products, but they will fill the land with chemicals, like us We see it happening all over the world. And they will trade raw materials.
We, as Ukrainians, will be left without land, without food, and just like Madagascar, because a state like Madagascar took this path, it sold all the land it had to international transnational corporations... and they have lost as of today 86% of our forest, because the forest was sold as farmland, and our law provides for this...
And just like Madagascar, today they came out on top in terms of hunger, having almost their entire territory of productive land that could feed Madagascar and the people of Madagascar, they sold the land and today they have hunger,” Tymoshenko said.
