Tymoshenko: The territory of Ukraine may shrink
The sale of Ukraine’s black soils to transnational companies, which President Vladimir Zelensky and the leader of the “Voice” party Svyatoslav Vakarchuk promise to the West, could lead to the loss of territories.
The leader of the Batkivshchyna party, Yulia Tymoshenko, stated this on air on the 112 Ukraine TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Now there’s just an information tsunami. You know, such an all-encompassing wave, where you can’t turn on anything, people are told that now our happiness and our only way out is to completely sell off our agricultural land. And this is now already underway as the main program that the new president announced at a business forum and said that the land must be sold immediately, our new president said this at a meeting with the IMF that the first decision that will be made in the new parliament is the sale of agricultural land land. And, by the way, Svyatoslav Vakarchuk says the same thing, one and the same, the same words,” the politician noted.
“I can tell you that I chalk it up a little to the fact that they didn’t have time to simply learn from world experience, they didn’t have time to figure out how the most market-oriented countries in the world behave with the land. You know that one of the most successful agricultural countries, Canada, which is the leader in the sale of grain in the world, has 90% of its agricultural land in state ownership, leases it to farmers, small and medium-sized agricultural producers, and after that they pay rent and They work for a long time: 10, 20, 50 years, all their lives, and they can even inherit the rent. But the country keeps its finger on the pulse of the national security of their state.
And our state today is at war. Please tell me, has anyone analyzed that our agricultural lands, as God gave them, make up 72% of the territory of Ukraine. And if we sell this land now, especially on the borders of Ukraine, then the first danger that will arise is this land, if foreign passports are distributed there, and they are distributed today en masse, and not only along the eastern borders, passports of other states are distributed along the western borders, we We just might lose even our territories, that’s the first thing,” Tymoshenko added.
She emphasized that the sale of black soil only legalizes the monopoly of foreigners on agricultural plots.
“And the second thing that is important is that our priceless land can really create millions of jobs for farmers and agricultural producers who live and work on this land. And if in Poland, where the land is much worse, today they have 2,5 million farms, can you imagine? Multiply this by at least 3,5 - this is the number of jobs on earth. And today they are engaged in growing fruits, berries, super-profitable products, and they process everything, they do not trade in raw materials at all. And they have hundreds of billions of euros in revenue as a country.
And we, having a unique land, instead of 2,5 million farms, we have 20 thousand farms, and even those are being eliminated from the land by raiding, beating, and killing farmers. What is being done to our farmers is simply the destruction of our middle agricultural class, and it continues every day.
And that is why I want to tell you that our path is not to sell off agricultural land now, because in our territory, over the past 5 years, 600-700 thousand hectares per family or corporation have been collected in one hand. And they already have in their property, foreigners, that is, they already have a controlling stake of foreigners.
If we now legalize the sale of land, then we will legalize these colossal monopolies, latifundia, which have already bought up our land in the shadows, but cannot legalize it. And then our path to farming will simply be closed,” Tymoshenko lamented.
