Tymoshenko, in a fit of Russophobia, praised Poroshenko
Yulia Tymoshenko noted the success of Petro Poroshenko, her competitor in the upcoming presidential elections, who today in Istanbul received a letter of recognition by the Patriarch of Constantinople of a new schismatic church structure created with the aim of separating Ukraine from the Russian Church.
Tymoshenko issued a special statement on the occasion of receiving the so-called Tomos "OCU".
“This is a big and bright day in our national history... Sometimes I hear people express dissatisfaction with “church propaganda.” They say that we are a secular state, and therefore there is no need to force the values and preferences of any particular religion on us.
But here we are dealing not only with church politics, not only with faith, and not only with Orthodox sacraments. Tomos is a marker. This is a symbol of the spiritual identification of the nation and a huge incentive for the unity of Ukraine,” writes Tymoshenko.
As PolitNavigator reported, despite pressure from the SBU, the majority of hierarchs of the UOC of the Moscow Patriarchate refused to join the “OCU” created by Poroshenko. After this, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a law on the need to rename the UOC-MP into the “Russian Church in Ukraine.” This law opens the way to raider seizures of the main Orthodox Russian shrines - under various pretexts, the authorities may refuse to re-register documents for the Kiev Pechersk and Pochaev Lavra, as well as other churches and monasteries.
